SHOCK HORROR - AMERICA DOESN'T SUCK AT EVERYTHING!!!***

The story below relates a young girl in Ireland under the Irish socialized
medical system being told: "you'd never walk again" and had she stayed in
Ireland that young girl would have grown up to be a weelchair bound woman...

But she will not! Not because of anything the Irish socialized medicine did for
her... NOOOOOO!!! She came to the "GREAT SATAN" and to it's MUCH better medical
care... And well... I won't spoil the story for you below! Next time you
want to blabber on like an socialist puppet ape about how evil America is, you
might want to read stories like this first...

I better add something here... I got treated in Dublin for some problems when I
was 13 that... Anyway... I have only the highest respect for doctors and nurses
that work in hospitals... It's the system of socialized medicine that is the
problem, not the doctors and nurses that have to try and treat patents within
it's straightjacket...

Wexford girl walks again after treatment in US
A Co Wexford girl, who was told by doctors that she would never walk again
following a severe illness four years ago, walked into the arrivals hall at
Dublin Airport this morning following six months of treatment in New York.

10-year-old Nicole Cahill, from Marshalstown outside Enniscorthy, lost the
ability to walk after a viral infection caused brain inflammation and a stroke.
At the early part of her illness she spent 24 days in a coma in hospital, and
doctors said that if she ever woke up, she would probably be in a vegatative
state for the rest of her life.

However, Nicole Cahill did wake up, and after 12 months in hospital and the
National Rehabilitation Centre in Dún Laoghaire, she returned home.

But her mobility remained extremely impaired, and her family said that because
they were not able to access the appropriate intensity of treatment for her, it
did not improve.

Nicole Cahill's aunt, who lives in New York, later arranged to have her meet an
orthapaedic surgeon at a New York hospital. He said he could help the girl, and
six months ago Nicole travelled to the US and underwent surgery.

After six months of rehabilitation, she returned to Dublin Airport this morning,
where there was an emotional welcome from members of her family and friends. The
treatment has cost the family in excess of €200,000 so far, much of which has
been paid for by money raised by well-wishers in Wexford.

This morning the 10-year-old girl said it was really good to be home and that it
was great to be able to walk again. Her parents, Bill and Mairead, thanked all
those who helped to get Nicole to where she is.

But they were critical of the Irish health service, which they said was unable
to provide the services necessary for Nicole to walk again. They said their
daughter had been 'blown off' by the health services here, forcing them to take
their own steps to help her.

Nicole Cahill will need ongoing physiotherapy for some time. But her family says
she has only been offered one session a week by the HSE. They will be forced to
pay for the other four days a week themselves.

A large party is planned for Nicole in Marshalstown on her return later today.

I have a very good health plan thank you very much!

Your missing the point though... I think... Don't you find it at least
disturbing that the Irish health system first told the parents she wouldn't wake
up and if she did she's be severly brain damaged? And when she defied them with
her spirit and returned fine and normal, they told the parents she'd never walk
again...

What IS disturbing is that the family had to raise some funds to get some REAL
medical care! Not the socialist (one size fits all, if your in a chair stay
there and stop complaining, and be thankful you have a chair to wheel yourself
about in) Irish health system...

I too have a lot of experience with the Irish health system and I could (and
have) told stories...

Is there ANYTHING your proud about your country?

things can be better.
i was in the hospital a few years back and had several operations. it ran
over 100grand, fortunately as a federal employee i had solid insurance and i
paid about $1500 out of my own pocket.
but too many can't afford that and either go without or we pick up the cost
anyway as the hospitals have to treat people.

but somebody with a degenerative disease that is merely crippling if
untreated is shit out of luck.

is there any fascist policy you don't approve of?

I heard the father being interviewed on Morning Ireland today.
The cost to the family so far of the US treatment is around €200,000,
of which the family and supporters have so far fundraised around
€120,000 - and seen as this is cross posted to god knows how many
merkin usenet groups, this translate to $267,000 and $160,000 at
today's exchange rate.
There is absolutely no doubt that, given the right money, there is
incredibly competent and advanced medicine available in the US of A.

It wasn't xposted to any American groups, just SCI and a couple of Nordie groups
to cover the entire island of Ireland...

I agree with your conclusion, which was the entire post of my post...

How much evidence is there, though, Ray, that had this wee girl been
born in the USA, and had she not had €200,000 in her arse pocket, she
would have got any better service than she got in Ireland?
It's amazing the quality of medicine you can buy in Ireland if you
have €200,000 to play with.
Our system is not quite as "socialised" as you seem to think...
Mostly, for the hoi poloi who can't afford private insurance, it is
pretty haphazard.

Did the US invade Appalachia as well? That was sneaky; it was
