Whereas the RA gave the Brits a thrashing it took them more than 30
years. You lads took on the cowardly evil scumbags during the "Cod"
war and punched well above your station. In less than 30 days you
have completely bankrupt the fuckers - well done.

In your dreams shit for brains. Iceland have bankrupted their own
country not the UK. They will either have to go cap in hand to the IMF
or become a Russian Naval base. The UK will recover its losses through
reduced EU contributions. It will be the net recipients of EU funding
like Ireland that will be the eventual losers. Why do you think the
British Government are guaranteeing British overseas savings? It's to
pass the loss on to the EU budget.

"Iceland have bankrupted their own country not the UK."

Dimshit - in *ngurlangish the correct term intended by you should
read: "Iceland has bankrupted its own
country not the piece of oxymoronic shit described by certifiable
imbeciles such as you as the UK."

No it shouldn't.

'such as you as the UK'

I am not the UK, so please use 'such as you in the the UK'. People and
countries are different entities. Your first language ranks alongside
Icesave when it comes a future. Now a sensible response to my post
would be very nice spud thick.

Iceland is not anywhere near bankruptcy, the state finances are in
very good shape and most of the outstanding debts of the banking
system will be covered by their assets.

No, it is not. We will have to go through some difficult
time but we
Žve been there before.

Many many times before. Except this time the whole
financial world has marched down that yellow brick road and
over the precapice into the abyss.

And all the King's Horses can't put Humpty together again,
with all the first-class plane trips, endless talk fests,
and all those greasy talking heads.

And thru it all, not ONE head has rolled. Remember:

Stupid is forever!

If spoze if he means ‘been through hard times’, after a brief history
search online, I can see what he means –
seems to be mostly grinding poverty, huge swathes of the population
being wiped out by famine or plague, and domination and occupation
from other countries.

I remember Bjork saying something in an interview about how Icelanders
think about the Danes the way Irish people think about the British.

Even so, I hadn’t realized they only got full independence in 1944.

[yawn] Oh yeah - all that stuff. Same as...same as... well,.. same as
everyone else in Europe I suppose.

I remember Bjork saying something in an interview about how Icelanders
think about the Danes the way Irish people think about the British.

I remember that! It was just after she had beaten yet another hapless
Australian reporter into unconciousness on an airport concourse.
The blood had yet to dry. She's still really HOT for a 60 year old that
smells of fish IMO.

Even so, I hadn’t realized they only got full independence in 1944.

Wasn't that just after they had threatened to become a Russian (relatively)
warm-water port?
What's the betting they try that one on again real soon? If it worked in
1944......

You can tut tut all you like but if you’re going on the game a naval
base makes sense. Another pyramid scam isn’t going to fly for the time
being.

You can tut tut all you like but if you’re going on the game a naval
base makes sense.

Oh I'm not tut tutting at all. I was brought up only 15 miles from
Portsmouth. The stirling efforts of thousands of local girls made the city
what it is today. The navy even built the famous 'hot wall' for them. It was
the external wall of the furnace and boiler rooms which provided heat for
all the navy barracks on the inside and warmed the arses of the economic
mainstays on the outside while they waited for their ships to come in.

Maybe Iceland could do something similar with all that geothermal heat
they're reknowned for.

It's disturbing to think that Adam might have been drinking at The Cowherds
along with Gavin Bailey and Paul Linehan.

sorry I'm lost and google can't help. Gavin Bailey of the Ethical Tea
Partnership? Sourcing tea has never been my strong suit, though i have
visited the very place where the Camellia Sinensis is said to have
first been discovered.

No chance. The Cowherds was in enemy territory. My local watering holes
where in downtown Pompey near Fratton Park or the dockyard.
I'm ashamed to say I can't even remember the names now.

PS. Who the **** are Gavin Bailey and Paul Linehan?

Just the mere fact of knowing about it is scary enough.

Probably The Red Lion, now O'Leary's Irish Pub and Grill. I never sank so
low as to go drinking in Pompey, though I knew people at the Poly.

It is not necessary for you to have that information.

I've had an interesting life. I was big enough to be able to get into pubs
at 14 for a start.
Big enough to get thrown out too I remember. The Cowherds is a very well
known pub but I was (still am) a Pompey supporter so it was also a
potentially lethal habitat.

You know I think you're right. The name certainly rings a bell.

I'm just the opposite - I never sank so low as to know anyone at the Poly
but was already low enough to go drinking in downtown Pompey without prior
sinking.
The cracked teeth came free with the Hambledon accent. I quickly discovered
that yelling "I say - steady on old bean - I'm on your side" while lying in
a crumpled heap on a pavement in Frogmore Lane was a totally ineffective
form of self-defence.

Well if you insist on wearing your Blue and White it would be. I usually
went in civilian attire and never had any trouble, unlike The Highfield.

I was going to mention The Juniper Berry but I think I won't.

I just made that up, but most city centres have a Red Lion. I doubt if it's
as old as the one in Soton though.

Presumably in Highfield? Not surprised you had trouble. Isn't that
Southampton's <spits> answer to Killbarrick?
I didn't have to wear Blue and White for them to suss me out - I always
start singing "Play up Pompey" when I'm rat-arsed - it's a bit of a
give-away.

> I was going to mention The Juniper Berry but I think I won't.

Best not unless you want all your Oirish mates to suss you as a screaming
poofter.

It's really bugging me now - maybe it was the Red Dragon?
It was a big pub on Palmerston Road (?) where all the Greasers and wannabe
Hells Angels hung out. It was a Red something anyway - most likely to
camouflage the bloodstains.
It'll come to me on my death bed most likely.

So what the **** where you doing in Scumton? Hope you weren't a scum
supporter.
Probably one of those soft-as-shit Poly students we used to beat up for
practice on dull weeknights.

Portsmouth to Glasgow was it?
What make are your front teeth?

: )=

I've had them repaired twice as it happens. Got cracked in Pompey then
broken in Dingwall.
Never had any bother in Glasgow. People used to cross the street to avoid
*me*.

Only once a day. But back then it was different. I don't know why people
were so intent on avoiding me though. I don't think it was the smell. It was
totally unfounded as I would always run away rather than fight if at all
possible and would never instigate any trouble myself. These days I don't
even get into those situations as I'm not quite so fleet of foot as I once
was. I think I'd still be pretty handy with a pick-axe handle at close range
though.
